I am relieved and pleased to pull out with no regrets. this will be like a marathon race which is to me.
Potholes or no potholes, min speed or no min speed required, I am pulling out. The highway is too dangerous & scaring for me to ride, more so with slow speed.

Audrey, having ridden with you before... the Kukup trip should be no problem for you in terms of distance and terrain. I am not too worry about speed as I believe 1. you still have time to train for stamina and strength. 2. the group will not leave you behind even if you are slow. Skills wise... fair enough to go on the road and should have no problems handling Malaysia traffic and again, I am confident the organiser and helpers will ensure the safety of all riders are in good hands.
But having said that, you did the right thing to pull out when you don't feel confident seeing yourself doing it. From the safety aspect, we take care of our own safety and we are responsible of it. So we must act accordingly and do the right thing to ensure our own safety. Example, if traffic is too heavy and one is not confident of riding with the traffic, if there is a need to push the bike on the pavement, by all means do so, better to be safe than sorry.
So maintain this right attitude, do the right things and you can enjoy riding for as long as you want. Meanwhile just prepare yourself for the next more exciting ride that comes up... Ride Hard! Ride Safe!!

The ONE thing we all LOVE abt lovecycling is, it doesnt matter what bike you ride (roadies, mtb, foldies, fixie, any other bikes that u can think of), what outfit u wear (jersey, tee-shirts, tights, slippers, etc) what race you're, how old are you (9yrs to 60++yrs), what your speed is...we ride together!! it's the friendship, the fun & the joy that bring us together and that cant be done without a simple word call respect.
If it's some words of encouragement, tips or note to care, you're most welcomed to post your view, your opinion here. The last thing we need here is to have someone starts to criticise or being hostile towards other riders.
Sorry if my words sounded harsh. |
There is no "Like" button in here.... but still......................................................
Well Said...!!!

Why i know u are bullshitting? Because living on outskirts of clementi you'll very likely to ride up to Woodlands meeting point via Upper Bukit Timah road. With circle line construction, that stretch of road is not a friendly road. I would say its condition is among the worst in sg at the moment. If can ride that stretch i see no reason why cannot ride across the causeway. The group just need to clear the JB city center early to avoid the traffic buildup when people start driving.
There's not much to fear riding in Johor. Sg road conditions like crime rate(latest being corpse behind istana) has been deteriorating over the years. Impatience of increasing no. of drivers in our hectic environment too.
Pace of life here is morphing into the bus in Speed movie - Must stay above 80km/h or else the bus rigged with bomb will explode & kill everyone onboard. Escalator not fast enough - keep left so people can chiong up on right side.

Hi Frontier,
You may meant well to encourage Audrey not to give up the trip so easily and miss all the fun but you surely did not approach it correctly and nicely. Two things I must say about your comments:
1. I think it doesn't cost anything to be friendly but the yield is definitely much rewarding than you can imagine... which is Friendships. In a community, friendship means a lot as it helps us to learn and grow. It makes joining the community more meaningful and fun and these are the whole purpose of joining a community, otherwise, you are better off being alone.
2. As a person advocating safe cycling, I would discourage people to give encouragement to another rider in the "wrong" way. We need to understand that every individual has different physiques, stamina, strength and skills, we should not "encourage" or "push" another rider base on our own physiques, stamina, strength, skills and judgement because this way we will stress out the rider physically and mentally and it could turn hazardous to the rider's health and safety on the roads. Example, we do not know if the rider has any underlying health conditions and if we keep "pushing" the rider in a way like "come on, come on, you can do it, keep going...!!", we would not know when the rider's body cannot take it and he/she may snap. While it may seems that we are being encouraging but it is more like pushing in this case. Likewise, a rider may not be comfortable or capable of riding at a certain speed or on a certain terrain and our "encouragement' to he/she to do it will become stressful and dangerous to the rider.
Let's do the right things, help each other, enjoy the rides and friendships...
Ride Hard! Ride Safe!!!

Wow my two sentences posting lead to so many response. Must thank Frontier instead of "hantum" him. Honurable Safe Cyling Chief Steven, thank you for your good assessment on my riding skill. One bar of confident up and m happy I collect two bars of confidence altogether today .
This morning humming your "san ge" (in the head, unable out loud) and with the help of grandma chainring & grandpa gear, I was able to huff and puff up the slopes. Verdict is I prefer to keep a distance from them! Dont like to befriend them! But I am not afraid of them liao. Well said. I agree with all that you said in the posting on safety issue.
I know the group will never leave any weak rider behind no matter how slow. I havent forgotten the care & support Sharon, TW and the others shown, bending certain rules in the 128 ride. Also the support and care shown in all other rides. . Before signing up to join a serious ride, I try as much as possible to ensure that I am not too far off from their level & the route is not to difficult to tackle as to cause inconvenience or slow them to their near teary/sleepy speed. I want to be considerate to others.
I know the group gives top priority to road safety but I also want to feel I am able to be in full control of my own safety when riding on main/busy roads. If I am not hundred percent in taking full control of my own road safety, I could also endanger others thru no fault of their own.

| Hey apologies but me and Amy have to pull out of the event. Amy's new bike is not on schedule and wont make it for the ride and she does not want to take up the kind offers of a bike loan from some kind fellows here as she is stressed that she might damage your bikes. I don't want to go off cycling without her hence we have decided to pull out. Our sincere apologies to Clarence for the trouble.
