| Hi Guys, Bukit Brown Cemetery is a tranquil place rich with biodiversity and also the final resting ground of many of Singapore's Chinese pioneers like Chew Joo Chiat, Gan Eng Seng and Tay Ho Swee. Sadly, this historic area is going to give way to a new road from Lornie to PIE, soon. Let us visit this place and capture the last images of Singapore's oldest existing burial ground, remembering our chinese pioneers! Meeting point: 0730hrs @ Botanical Gardens (main gate facing Gleneagles hospital), ride up Cluny Rd > Kheam Hock Rd > Lor Halwa (cemetery gate) > Whitley Rd > Mt Pleasant > Caldecott > Macritchie Reservoir > Upp Thomson Rd > Roti Prata House > Bishan Park? Distance: 15-20km one wayTerrain: mostly road, cemetery roads are paved so is suitable for foldies (and roadies) too Date: 13th Nov 2011 Special note: (1) bring insect repellant if needed! (2) Try not to be too rowdy while in the cemetery grounds, the occupants may not like it!Confirmed: 1. Vince (lead from Bukit Brown to Macritchie)(90270487) 2. Taiwoon (lead from Macritchie to... | thanks vince for organising. I definitely want to do this one. The last time I visited the place was a year ago for birdwatching with Nature soc of singapore and wished then I could do a ride in the area, quiet with only a handful of mountain bikers. But with no mrt station nearby and the unavoidable access via busy Bt timah and Lornie road, I abandoned that wish..

| Vince, Please include me in.
Thanks.
Dear all true blue Sporeans and those who want to preserve the area,
Based on the blog, if it is true, the place holds more historical values then earlier stated.
Do make a visit to witness for yourself.

Very peaceful place compared to people infested malls on a weekend. 2-3 loops inside the cemetery in which there's no way to get lost as long as on the path. First time ride so close to a grave in my life. Grave is literally beside the walking/cycle path.
Old turf club not far away is gonna be torn down soon. You may want to last ride there as well before is demolished after end Feb 2012. Can toilet break there. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_683406.html
If still need to fill in time should those 2 rides end early can ride Rifle Range Rd till the end.
Though the graveyard is the main destination, if doing old turf club & rifle range you might want to do them in reverse as easier to follow main traffic flow along Dunearn Rd from one place to another in sequence - Rifle Range Rd nature trail cycle-->old turf city before demolition-->bkt brown graveyard before 'disturbance' |
